Student offers his kidney for sale to raise school fees

A second year KMTC students has resorted to offering one of his kidneys for sale after he was barred from sitting his second year exams and continuing his education.

Michael Muruthi Wanjohi, 22, says he has school fees arrears totaling to Sh67,700. Wanjohi says he is selling one of his vital organs to raise the money not only to clear the balance, but also pay the amount remaining to him clear his trainings and later for a degree course in university.

Wanjohi , who hails from Tetu constituency, Nyeri county is a diploma student, studying  Clinical Medicine and Surgery, saying that he has a childhood dream of becoming a medic.

Before resorting to putting his organs in the market, Wanjohi says he had tried organizing funds drives, applying for bursaries, and approaching potential well-wishers but without success.

He adds that he was a warded Sh.10,000 by Nyeri county government beside sh3,000 from Tetu CDF but this is barely enough.

"I have tried all i can but in vain. I will have to sell one of my kidneys to realize my dream," he said.

As part of his pursuit of dream of a career in medicine, Wanjohi says he managed to enroll for the course he is doing in September 2017 after saving a sum of Sh67,000 when he worked at a Nyeri hotel and later in Embu County.
