18 Passengers Injured In A Road Accident Along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway

Eighteen people were injured three of them seriously, following an accident involving three vehicles along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The early morning accident near Delamere farm in Naivasha, occurred after a lorry heading to Nakuru veered off its lane and rammed into the side of the Climax Coaches bus that was heading in the opposite direction.

The bus ended up losing control and landing on the side of the road while a Canter also heading to Nairobi hit the lorry that had stalled in the middle of the road.

A witness Joel Kariuki blamed the lorry for the 3am accident, adding that the driver could have slept before veering off his lane.

“After the accident, eighteen people were injured three of them seriously and rushed to Naivasha sub-county hospital and other private facilities for treatment,” he said.

The superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr Joseph Mburu said that ten patients had been brought to the facility with one of the seriously injured.

“One of the ladies is seriously injured and has a fracture on the left hand while the other passengers received minor injuries and were treated and discharged,” he said.

Meanwhile motorcycle operators in Gilgil have been warned to adhere to the law failure to which they will be arrested and prosecuted.

This follows an incident were the operators stoned a private car and threatened to torch it for allegedly hitting a motorist and fleeing from the scene.

During the incident, police had to move in and rescue the owner of the car from the irate owner after the accident which left the pedestrian nursing serious injury.

Speaking on phone, Gilgil OCPD Serah Koki accused the operators of taking the law onto their hands adding that security officers would not tolerate that.

“There was an incident where a pedestrian was slightest injured in an accident but the operators ended up attacking a different motorist and we shall not allow this,” she said.
