2 Middle Aged Men Commit Suicide In Mysterious Circumstances In Naivasha And Kinangop

A total of three people including a minor have died in three different cases in Naivasha and Kinangop in the last twenty-four hours.

In two of the cases, two middle-aged men have committed suicide due to failure to get employment or from alleged marital frustrations.

In the first incident, a 25-year-old farmer from Kwa Haraka village in Kinangop took his life by drinking pesticide in his home. A resident, Ng’ang’a Gathuku, said the deceased was found unconscious in his bed after an alleged fall-out with his wife.

He was rushed to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital in critical condition where he passed on while undergoing treatment. According to Gathuku, suicide cases were a common phenomenon in the area. He called on the government to institute counseling program in the county.

“Tens of youths in this area are semi-illiterate and most of them think the only way to get out of frustrations is committing suicide,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the same village, a four-year-old boy who was swimming with friends died after drowning in a local dam.

The minor slid and fell into the dam whose water levels had increased due to the ongoing rains. Efforts to rescue him were not successful.

A resident Jane Wanjiku said that by the time neighbors were alerted of the tragedy it was too late and the body was recovered three hours later.

“This is the second child to drown in this area in a span of two months and we are worried by the rising cases, mainly in open dams,” she said.

In Kinamba village in Naivasha, a middle-aged man died after jumping into a pit latrine in yet another case of suicide. The university graduate had left a note detailing how he had been frustrated over the lack of a job and ended up committing suicide.

A local Stephen Kimani said the man had been very distracted with his own thoughts for a period of time and in he was often seen alone.

A senior police officer who did not want to be named confirmed the incidents saying the two bodies have been collected and taken to the Naivasha county referral hospital mortuary.
