2022 polls: Here are two indicators of how a Kabogo presidency would look like

Even as President Uhuru Kenyatta has insisted that the decibels about 2022 election must go down, you must have heard about former Kiambu governor William Kabogo's Presidential ambitions.

Kabogo had said early last month that he is contemplating running for the top seat in the next polls "as I see things getting mixed up right now".

"Kabogo Presidency is a possibility," he said, while appearing at Citizen TV's JKL on January 9.

But from his description of his presidency should he win, Kabogo suggests that he would radical and different.

First, he said his approach to fighting corruption would be proactive and combative. He has even been suggesting that President Uhuru hire him as the head of EACC to "teach the corrupt a lesson."

It could be deduced that a president Kabogo would maroon people accused of corruption dealings in prison cells as court processes about their cases go on as opposed to the current practice where officials remain in power even as investigations about the accusations go on. This has been giving them leverage to obstruct investigations, eventually cheating justice.

Perhaps his vicious approach to the corruption scourge was captured in his response when asked how he would advise Uhuru on how to deal with graft.

"Kick them, kick their asses," he responded.

"My presidency would be good to many, bad for a few. But I'd create a lot of enemies," he added.

The second element about a president Kabogo administration would be his radical view about development in the country.

Appearing to discount Uhuru's big four agenda, mainly regarding building 500,000 housing units, Kabogo said this is would not be feasible.

"How many people will benefit from this project? And it cannot be completed with the next  four years," he said.

Instead, Kabogo said he would give "just a small fraction of the billions to the youths who are desperate for jobs to create businesses."

"In the scheme, not all youth given the money would certainly be successful in their ventures, but those who succeed would help those who don't," he said.

Kabogo is credited for a successful youth empowerment while he was Kiambu county boss where he would have youths wanting to do business given seed capital for business.

All in all, the affluent former governor appears to be level-minded and sober. Whether this is because he is out of power remains to be seen.
