A total of 38 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates displaced by insecurity in Baringo County are set to sit for their exams on Tuesday.

The pupils from Mukutani Primary school in Baringo South Sub-county were among over 800 families displaced by bandits attack in March.

They were currently spending as internally displaced camps at Eldume in Marigat and Tangubei in Tiaty Sub-county.

Mukutani Primary School Head teacher Jackson Lekicher said he succeeded to assemble the registered KCPE candidates and they are all set to write their national exams at Marigat primary school tomorrow.

Lekicher said he had challenges locating all his 331 pupils especially the candidates after closing his Mukutani primary school indefinitely owing to the deadly clashes.

“I had to run up and down and I finally thank God to learn my kids got places to continue their learning and revisions at Losampurpur and Tangulbei in Baringo South and Tiaty Sub-county respectively” he said adding that he is yet to locate the rest of the school kids.

The head teacher further said after a long struggle to convince their parents, they have managed to bring together the candidates to join the 104 candidates at Marigat Primary school, on Friday to carry out their rehearsals ahead of their exams.

“I have even heard one of my pupils’ secured second position last term at Tangulbei primary school so this adds up our confidence that they are all prepared to sit for their paper and they will do exemplary well,” said Mr Lekicher.

However one of the KCPE candidates Jackson Kibon explained his situation saying he did not manage to study through third term at Merikwet primary school in Olmoran in Laikipia County due to sprawl caused by the KDF Security operation.

“But with the knowledge I got since I joined primary school I am ready to face the exams and I am confident to pass it” said Kibon.

Other candidates who expressed their confidence were Mercy Nachipai, Kevin Lekichap, Victor Churuny and Ruth Kibor.

The pupils were displaced after the warring pokot and Ilchamus communities clashed over Killing of 11 people by unknown armed bandits in March.

Among other schools affected by insecurity in Baringo south were Arabal, Kapndasum, Chemorongion, Tuiyotich and Kashiela.

Elsewhere, in Baringo North the KCPE candidates are set to write their exams despite fears of insecurity.

Chemoe resident Richard Chepchomei urged the government to beef up security by deploying security officers to conduct constant patrols across the entire borders of Tiaty and Baringo North Sub-counties to keep away to resurgent bandits.

“We know it is common to have two or three police officers manning the examination per every school but that is not enough to assure sufficient security” said Chepchomei.

Meawhile some four physically impaired KCPE candidates are set to write their exams at Marigat special school.

Their teacher Albert Kurgat said they are well prepared to face the exams, “we expect them to attain 200 marks out possible 500 mark” he said.
