Seven people have perished in a fatal road accident at Matulo area a few metres from Webuye town.

The Saturday morning accident left seven other people with serious injuries.

The accident occurred after the Nissan that was coming from Bungoma headed to Webuye tried to overtake a bus and rammed onto a lorry that had parked at the road.

The lorry had developed mechanical problem and had been stagnant on the road.

The driver of the Nissan escaped and has since gone missing.

It's alleged that he was ferrying illicit brew in the vehicle claims that the star could not ascertain.

The injured were moved by Webuye police officers to webuye sub county hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Among the dead is a second year student of Kibabi University.The student was among two other students who were traveling from school to home.

Bungoma East OCPD Valerian Obore said that police have began probe to establish the cause of the accident.He said that the accident might have been caused by speeding and reckless driving by the Nissan driver.

Obore cautioned drivers ploughing the northern corridor highway from overspeeding to avoid such incidents in future.

This comes barely three days after the Ugandan high commissioner to Kenya Phibby Otaala was involved in a crash at Kimwanga area along the Eldoret-Malaba highway.
