Administration police officer to be charged for murder at a pub

A Narok High Court has preferred murder charges against an Administration Police officer who was acting as a witness in a case where a 31 year old man was murdered at a pub in Melilo area, Narok South Sub County.

Narok High Court Judge, Justice Justus Bwonwonga acquitted the earlier accused Samuel Njenga Muchai who was facing murder charges and instead ordered Corporal Wesley Langat to be arrested and charged with the murder.

Justice Bwonwonga said the evidence of 12 witnesses produced by the prosecution clearly indicated that the police officer had an upper hand in the death of James Koriankei that happened on 11 May 2014.

In his judgment today, the judge said according to the government analyst, blood samples found on the police clothes were that of the deceased.

“Additionally, the evidence of Investigating Officer Samuel Liu clearly shown that corporal Langat was treated as a suspect alongside the accused,” added the judge.Bwonwonga accused Corporal Langat of influencing the members of the public to deny investigating officers to take photographs as part of the investigations into the murder scene.

“The reaction of the members of the public who didn’t allow investigating officer corporal Henry Kiboma to access the scene of crime to take photographs is troubling. I find that it is the involvement of Corporal Langat into this murder that made the public to deny access to the murder scene,” the judge said.

The postmortem report produced by Dr. Allan Soita in court shown that the deceased body had a stab wound in the chest.

“The cause of death was due to injuries to the cardiac muscles, lung tissue and blood loss from one stab injury by a sharp object to the left chest,” the postmortem report read.

The body of late Koriankei was found lying in a club at Melilo area on May 11, 2014 with injuries on the chest but there was no blood at the scene.
