Chiromo Mortuary was in a sombre mood for the second day Thursday, as families of the DusitD2 Hotel attack victims sought to identify the bodies of their loved ones.

The relatives were not just bogged down by the heavy weight of their loss, but also the long wait they had to endure to identify the bodies. This was occasioned by the postmortem procedures carried out by chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor.

“It will take some time to finish the work of reconstructing some of the bodies, which are in bad shape,” a pathologist said.

They only allowed viewing and identification of bodies in good shape. The pathologists continued working on the others — some of which had missing body parts.

Red cross officials said that all reported missing persons at DusitD2 are now accounted.

“All 94 cases have been closed positively as of (now),” it said in a statement at 12:30 giving no further details.

President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Wednesday evening that a 20-hour siege had ended with security forces killing all the attackers

But even as Red Cross confirmed that all people had been accounted for, many families who had not seen their loved ones remained anxious at Chiromo mortuary.

It has been revealed that one of the terrorists was the son of a soldier, who has since admitted that he hasn't seen his son since 2015.

Four employees of the DusitD2 Hotel were killed in the Tuesday terror attack at the premises, the management said last evening.

Three others were admitted to various hospitals with injuries, general manager Michael Metaxas said.

“From the 100 employees who were on duty during the attack, we can confirm that four lost their lives. Three are receiving treatment,” Metaxas told reporters.
