Arsenal Score Four Past Stoke To Keep Their Top 4 Hopes Alive

Arsenal yesterday continued with their resurgence as they thrashed Stoke City 4-1 in the English Premier League to keep alive hopes of securing a champions league slot.

The Gunners earned their goals through Olivier Giroud who scored a brace, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

No one is fighting more fiercely than Arsenal and this brutal rout of Stoke, which brought some breathtaking moments of magic out of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, took Arsene Wenger’s side to within a point of Liverpool in the struggle for the fourth Champions League spot.

Set against a dispiriting but predictable backdrop of continued sniping at Wenger, Arsenal played some beautiful football against a struggling Stoke side and coasted to their fifth victory in six league games. A few weeks ago, making the top four seemed like a forlorn hope but not any more.

Sure, this was not a victory against a top side but it was still impressive in its way. Arsenal have a miserable record at the bet365 Stadium. They used to be intimidated when they came here and had won only once in their previous eight visits but they played Stoke off the park.

Elsewhere Manchester City were 2-1 winners over Leicester thanks to goals from David Silva and Gabriel Jesus.

Today's fixtures will see West Ham entertain Liverpool while the big match will be when Tottenham Hotspur host Manchester United later in the day.
