AUDIO: Clubs Don't Have Doctors, Only Physiotherapists! - Decries Nick Mwendwa

Football Federation of Kenya President, Nick Mwendwa has decried the deplorable state of medical preparedness among local football clubs, in case of health emergencies.

Mwendwa was speaking to Radio Jambo presenters, Fred Arocho and Yusuf Kaona in wake of the recent tragic news where Cameroon international Patrick Ekeng died after collapsing on the field in Romania.

The 26 year-old midfielder, played for Dinamo Bucharest.

His team was playing Viitorul in Bucharest on Friday when he collapsed. Ekeng fell during the 69th minute of the game and was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead, local media reported.

The incident was followed by yet another tragedy hitting Cameroon, where Jeanine Christelle Djomnang a female footballer who plied her trade with the country’s women’s elite league side, Femina Stars Ebolowa collapsed during her warm-up after suffering a suspected heart attack, less than 48 hours after Ekeng's death.

With such cases on the rise, Arocho and Kaona sought to learn about the state of preparedness in our local clubs from Nick Mwendwa in case of such tragedies.

Among the things highlighted by Mwendwa, are; lack of finances and the fact that local clubs only boast of physiotherapists and not actual doctors.
