First lady Margaret Kenyatta on Thursday , received a sh 10 million fully equipped mobile clinic and cheques worth a similar amount at State House, Nairobi from companies and individuals to support ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign.
The First Lady thanked the donors and expressed optimism that the cause she is championing with their support will succeed in ensuring a better future for mothers and children.
“The support received from corporate companies and individuals is amazing. We are conducting the charity campaign as Kenyans in support of the less privileged in society. Am confident we will succeed,” the First Lady said.
Representatives of the various companies pledged to join the First Lady in next month’s Nairobi marathon that aims at creating awareness and raising funds for the remaining 27 mobile clinics.
The mobile clinic was donated by the Bank of Africa – Kenya through the group chairman Mohammed Bennani who pledged continued support for the ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign.
Pinkie Fouche on behalf of her company, Crown Beverages, donated Sh 4 million.
Bamburi Cement, through Corporate Affairs and Communication Director Susan Maingi, donated Sh 1.5 million. She said the ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign has an amazing impact.
De La Rue Company and Parapet Cleaning Services donated Sh 1million each.
De La Rue chief executive David Hepple described the First Lady’s campaign as ‘a wonderful cause’.
Parapet’s Alex Mugo said a team from the company will be joining the First Lady in next month’s Nairobi marathon.
Other donors were James Kiruri and family Sh 650,000, Aga Khan school Sh 600,000 and Kenindia Assurance Company Sh 500,000.
The First Lady held talks with the Executive Director of Project C.U.R.E. Arizona Ms. Kate Mabardy who paid her a courtesy call at State House Nairobi. Ms. Mabardy was accompanied by senior officials of a local sister company, Friends of Africa International chairman Bonnie Bishop and Dr. Ernest Mureithi.
Ms. Mabardy said her organization, operating in 130 countries, is a supplier of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world.
The First Lady and Project C.U.R.E officials discussed areas of collaboration in the ‘Beyond Zero’ initiative to improve on the health of mothers and children.
