Harambee Stars assistant coach, Stanley Okumbi has expressed confidence in local based footballers ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
His sentiments comes after the local based players propelled the national soccer team to their 13th CECAFA triumph back in December.
Okumbi believes the team’s effort will only serve as a morale booster for the likes of Michael Olunga and Victor Wanyama and other foreign based players, to work harder in order to retain their first team spots.
The recent win will play a huge role in boosting the players morale especially the foreign based players since they saw what the local based players did and heading into the African Cup of Nations qualifiers fixtures and I am 100% confident they will give their best. Said Okumbi.
However, with Kenya scheduled to host Ghana, a footballing heavyweight in September, should we expect the team to take part in a few friendly matches?
We are still working on organizing a number of friendly matches with West African teams since we will be playing Ghana but it is not yet confirmed the team we will be facing but that will be finalized in the next one or two weeks.
The scheduled training camp in Europe is highly unlikely since it doesn’t seem realistic camping in Europe while the match we are preparing for will take place in Kenya, so chances of setting a camp in Europe are 30% to 70%. Added Okumbi.
