Samburu North residents have vowed to live together in peace and unity as they cooperate to bring development in the region despite their tribal differences.

While speaking at Huruma grounds in Samburu North Sub County where a sports competition event was organized for children from Turkana and Samburu communities, the residents said it is high time they will cooperate to eliminate cattle rustlers from their communities.

“We must stop cattle rustling because we have fought for a very long time since 1996, this time round a thief from either Samburu or Turkana community will be isolated and dealt with as a criminal individual,” said a resident.

The unique sports competition event was aimed at uniting Samburu and Turkana communities through their children.

The residents drawn from Bendera, Ngilai, nachola and Baragoi among other villages urged the county government to support inter-community sports competition events, saying the residents will be united and persuaded to coexist peacefully through sports.

“ I ask the county government to be organizing sports events for our children, with this I am optimistic that we shall be united and will work together for development,” said Christine Mojong, a resident of Baragoi.

Julius Eregae, another resident, said that as parents they were optimistic that peaceful co existence will be facilitated by their children playing together.

"We are happy of the unity, we want it to continue through our children, we have seen the children play as a family, no one said i am a Turkana, i am a Samburu," he said.
