A cholera outbreak in parts of the country, has seen the department of public health in Naivasha outlaw food hawking around Naivasha sub-county hospital.

The department has also banned the dropping and picking up of passengers at the hospital gate by both matatus and motorcycle operators.

According to the notice signed by James Kinyua from the department of public health, the hospital gate should be kept clear of all obstructions.

As per the notice, the food hawking, obstruction by the boda boda operators and dropping of passengers by matatus were a nuisance.

“All hawking of fruits near the hospital gates and dropping of passengers should stop with immediate effect and failure to comply with the directive will lead to legal action”.

Speaking on phone, the superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr Joseph Mburu welcomed the move adding that it had come at the right time.

He said that with the ongoing cholera outbreaks in parts of the country, food hawking outside the hospital posed a threat to patients.

“We are working with the department of public health to make sure that the ban on food hawking mainly around the hospital gate is effected”.

He said that with the ongoing rains, there was need to minimize handling of food which he pointed out as one of the main causes of cholera in the area.

“We have tens of people outside the hospital gate poorly handling food and this could be one of the main reasons for the spread of cholera in this area”.

Already, the department of public health is on high alert following the cholera outbreak in parts of the country with fears that this could spread to the lakeside town.

The department has embarked on treating shallow wells in Kihoto estate which in the past has recorded high of cases of cholera.

Lakeview MCA Simon Wanyoike welcomed the move to treat the wells noting that the estate which is home to tents of flower farm workers was prone to cholera.

Residents of Naivasha woke up to a rude shock to find the bodies of two men murdered and dumped along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The bodies of the victims  have no any identification documents were found dumped near Morendat farm 10kms from Naivasha town and a few meters from the highway.

Flower farm workers found the bodies today morning before police moved in and took them to the Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.

The incident comes barely three days after another man was executed along the Mai Mahiu-Narok road by three men who later fled in a waiting car.

The smartly dressed man was shot twice on the back of the head after he was ordered out of the vehicle and told to lie down.

In the latest incident, a white car allegedly dumped the bodies along the busy road few hours before driving off in a huff according to a night guard Joseph Wafula.

Wafula who works in one of the flower farms said that the men had injuries on their heads and necks adding that the suspects drove towards Nairobi soon after dumping the bodies.

“The two were murdered elsewhere and driven to the abandoned section of the highway where they were dumped by the unknown men".

A senior police officer who declined to be named said that the duo were in their mid-20s adding that they had launched investigations into the incident.

“From initial investigations this is outright murder and we shall have to send the fingerprints to the registrar of persons for identification purposes".

Meanwhile a group of armed carjackers struck along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway blocking a fleet of vehicles before making away with a brand new Nissan matatu.

The thugs who were armed with a gun hit the matatu from the rear near Limuru town before moving in as the owner stopped to examine the damage.

A witness Jacob Karimi said that when the Nissan matatu stopped, the thugs moved out with the guns and pushed the unsuspecting owner into their car.

“Members of the public watched in horror as the screaming man was pushed into the waiting car which sped from the scene as another man took control of the matatu".

The senior police officer said that the driver was dumped in Kasarani estate in Naivasha where he reported the issue adding that the car was yet to be recorded.
