Consumers will from today pay more for bottled water, fruit juices, beer and cigarettes as the new Excise Duty 2015 Act takes effect.

The new act that aims to raise 28 billion shillings by June next year, stipulates a ten shilling levy per litre on soft drinks and water and a flat rate of 100 shillings per litre of beer.

Imported motorcycles will attract a 10,000 shilling levy and second hand vehicles aged more than three years will be charged 200,000 shillings.
