An AP officer shot his girlfriend dead after a quarrel at a bar in Kianjai, Tigania West subcounty in Meru on Tuesday.

The officer, Solleey Muli, had served at Uruu AP camp for 10 years.

Deputy County Commissioner Stephen Kavulu said Muli used a colleague's gun to kill the 25-year-old only identified as Mukami.

Kavilu said the colleague had been manning a bank in the area.

“He was also found in the same bar while armed and in uniform. The question we are asking is how did he get there and how did Mr Muli use his gun to kill his lover but we are carrying out investigations to confirm whether they colluded with the officer who was not on duty,”Kavilu said.

Kavilu said the officer claimed he had gone to buy a cigarette at the bar when Muli snatched the gun from him and shot Mukami.

Family sources said Mukami, who had known Muli for long, had just finalised her divorce.

They said he had picked her from her Mweraondu home before they went to the bar.

Witnesses said the two had been in a jovial mood before the quarrel began after several drinks.

The officers were detained at Ngundune police station.
