Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) wants the government to increase the minimum wage for workers by at least 20% this year. Secretary General Francis Atwoli says workers’ salaries should be increased to enable them cope with the high cost of living.

The union has also called on the government to reduce workers’ contributions to NHIF so as to make healthcare affordable. Atwoli says the fund should have calculated insurance premiums from workers’ gross and not basic pay.
