More police officers have been mobilized and sent to major hospitals as the national strike called by doctors enters its second day this morning. The government failed to beg the doctors to stop the strike and go back to the negotiating table to come up with a solution.

There are fears of more chaos in the hospitals and police have been instructed to ensure they provide any needed help.

The strike was called to push for the implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that was signed in 2003.

Health CS Cleopa Mailu said a meeting aimed to avert the nationwide strike did not bear any fruits.

Both nurses and doctors have rejected a salaries commission report on job evaluation, saying it does not indicate what they should earn.
