CRIME: Policeman shot by gunmen in Njiru area, Nairobi

A policeman was this morning shot and seriously wounded in an attack by gunmen in Njiru area, Nairobi.

The officer was in the company of two colleagues when a man they were searching for weapons pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest before escaping.

Police say the incident happened at about 3 am when a taxi driver stopped by where they were manning a roadblock and informed them the men he had carried from Kayole to Mwiki through Njiru were suspicious and he wanted them searched.

It was at that point that one of the three men who were in the taxi pulled a weapon and shot the officer. They escaped. The officer is admitted in hospital in a serious condition and hunt on the gang is ongoing.

It came a day after a senior Administration Police officer was Wednesday morning shot dead in cold blood by unknown people near his residence in Mihang’o area, Nairobi. The body of Eston Muthini Ndwiga, a Superintendent of Police attached to AP headquarters, Nairobi was found with gun shot wounds in his chest at the local shopping.

Meanwhile, police have warned of a traffic jam in parts of the city today following planned graduation ceremony at the Kenya Medical Training College. The event will take place near KNH and there would be almost 10,000 new people will be in the city. More traffic personnel have been mobilized to ensure free flow of traffic. Police advise motorists to avoid the area and Ngong Road at large which will be affected.
