While Simone Zaza marked his loan move to West Ham by spelling out his determination to succeed at his new club, the Italian international's girlfriend chose to go on the front foot with her public declaration on arrival in London.
Accompanied by a mock-moody picture of the pair together on Twitter and Instagram, Chiara Biasi posted the message, 'don't mess with us'.
A self-styled lifestyle blogger, Biasi is prolific on social media, regularly publishing photos of herself for the entertainment of her hordes of fans.
Her 92,100 Twitter followers dwarfs the total of 33,100 people tracking her other half's posts.
And it's a similar story on photo-sharing site Instagram. While Zaza's snaps are seen directly by an audience of 761,000, Biasi's prolific posting has won her 1.1 million followers.
Former Sampdoria striker Zaza is linking up with West Ham on a one-year loan deal, which has the potential to be converted into a £17million permanent switch from Juventus.
He has spent only one year with Juve, scoring eight goals in 24 appearances and winning the Italian title with the Turin giants.
Zaza featured for his country at this summer's European Championship, but the 25-year-old's tournament ended in miserable fashion. He skied his penalty as Italy lost a quarter-final shootout to Germany and was subsequently, inevitably, pilloried on social media.
The player's girlfriend, one year his senior, immediately sprang to his defence - and got stuck into the trolls targeting Zaza while she was at it.
It would appear, then, that there is some substance to the words she used to announce herself on the London scene.
