Family Of Ex-Cabinet Minister Patrick Muiruri Awarded Sh15M For Son's Death

The family of former Agriculture Assistant Minister Patrick Muiruri has been awarded 15 million shillings as compensation following the 2009 killing of their son by a police officer .

Dr James Nganga, a law lecturer in the UK was shot three times at dawn on January 24 ,2009 after he was involved in a brawl at Crooked-Q night club in Westlands.

Ex Inspector Dickson Munene and his friend businessman Alex Chepkonga were found guilty and sentenced by justice Muhamed Warsame.

Chepkonga was later acquitted after he successfully challenged the judge's verdict at the Court of Appeal.

The family and the Attorney General entered into a consent on June 2016 in which it was agreed that the State was wholly liable for the death of Dr. Nganga.

The award by justice Joseph Sergon is for the pain and suffering caused to the family, loss of expectation of life ,loss of dependency as well as special and exemplary damages.
