Female MCA dares chief of staff to a fist fight over nurses’ strike

A female nominated member of the Meru County Assembly has dared the Meru County Government Chief of Staff James Mutia to a fist fight for allegedly issuing money to goons to pelt stones to demonstrating nurses last week outside the governor’s office.

Dorsen Kagwiria who was speaking at a fund raising at Kianjuri AIPCA Church expressed dismay that the Meru County Government can not afford funds to give the nurses but can misuse taxpayers money to hire goons.

“Not until when I face Mutia and engage him in a physical fight my heart will not be at peace. I am in a lot of pain when I see the people of Meru suffering. How could he give out Sh. 200,000 to goons to throw stones to nurses who are demonstrating demanding for their rights”, she said.

She went on to say “Shame on you Mutiga and I say Meru funds are not for misusing the way you want, they are for delivering services and work for the people of Meru”.

Her sentiments over the nurses’ strike were echoed by a religious leader who is also an MCA aspirant Edwin Bundi who snubbed Governor Peter Munya’s leadership for allegedly spending Sh. 40 million to plant grass in Meru Town instead of addressing the nurses’ grievances.

“Munya has money to plant grass, construct petrol stations and travel to outside countries. We are tired of being led people who have no interest with the common mwananchi. There are people who want to bring a government of equality. Let the governor of Meru pay the nurses so that they can resume duty”, said Bundi.

Speaking at the same venue Igembe South MP who is also the senate aspirant Mithika Linturi said failure by the county government to seek a permanent solution to the perennial nurses strike is one of the reasons they are seeking the removal of governor Peter Munya from office through the ballot next year.

“The constitution says anybody who is employed has a right to join a union but when nurses go on strike because they have issues they want addressed and then they are beaten with stones, this shows that the governor is a person who does not obey the constitution and that is a sign of a bad leader. It is the right time to say enough is enough and get a new government”, said Linturi.
