Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has disclosed that his office inherited a staggering debt of almost Sh200million.

Mwendwa, who made the startling revelation while addressing officials from south coast during the consultative meeting held last Sunday at Mombasa sports club, said the federation targets to settle all the outstanding debts by the year 2019.

‘’When we took office we were in a state of shock. We found a whooping debt of Sh195 millions with creditors all over armed with court orders. However we have managed so far to reduce the debts substantially and hopefully by 2019 we shall have settled all the outstanding debts’’

The FKF supremo disclosed he took office at the period Kenya FA was serving embargo from the world governing body FIFA, for lack of accountability and transparency

‘’FIFA demanded we provide a road map on how we plan to have internal controls and we provided the same to the satisfaction of the world governing body after which they lifted the embargo’’

Mwendwa said the federation has attracted donor confidence as vindicated by the recent signing of Sh70 million Sports Pesa sponsorship. Premier mobile phone service provider Safaricom and soft drink giants Coca Cola limited are some of the sponsors that have shown interest in investing in the game.

The FKF president was on a tour of Mombasa last Sunday after gracing the national beach soccer trials in Malindi the previous day. The consultative meeting in Mombasa was to update the regional soccer leaders on the progress of the federation since taking over office five months ago.
