Looking ahead to next season, that next season’s fixture list over the festive period could be absolutely insane.
This year there were four matches over the Christmas and New Year period. Gameweek 17 began on December 17 and Gameweek 20 finished yesterday.
Next season, the Premier League are looking to fit in six (six!) gameweeks over the same period.
The 2017/2018 season will finish earlier in a bid to help England prepare for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
As a result, Premier League clubs look set to play six games over 17 days from December 16, 2017 until January 1, 2018.
Next Christmas and New Year will likely feature a whopping 60 Premier League matches. This season there were 40.
