Four Mathira cops arrested after receiving Sh128, 000 bribe

Four police officers attached to Mathira DCI office were on Sunday morning arrested after they allegedly received a Sh128,000 bribe.

Henry Thuranira, Felix Ronoh, James Kioko and Yussuf Osman are alleged to have received the bribe from 16 illegal Ethiopian immigrants.

The immigrants were travelling from Moyale to Nairobi when the officers intercepted them at Karatina on Friday and asked for the money for their release.

One of the officers agreed to have Sh58,000 sent to his mobile phone while the rest of the money was handed to the others.

The aliens were later arrested in Makutano area where they revealed what they had bribed to get their freedom.

The four officers are in custody at Othaya police. They will be charged on Monday.

On February 10th, six police officers were charged with obtaining more than Sh20, 000 from matatu so as not to charge them with traffic offences.

A conductor was also charged.
