Fraudsters arrested while soliciting money in Turkana over mau mau compensation claims

The five fraudsters were arrested at Lokapapaparai village in Turkana central while collecting money from residents claiming they were Mau Mau governing council and promising compensation.
Appearing before Lodwar Law Courts,Magistrate Christine Wekesa said that Joseph Ngacha Karani, Omete Nyanchoka, Moses Ketira, John Koele Loseny and Godfrey Kebo Lowett on 27th of January were arrested by police allegedly collecting money from residents.
"The five men jointly with others not before the court falsely pretended to be Members of  Mau Mau war fighters council obtained sh. 2,000 from each resident of Lokapapaparai village claiming that they were registering Mau Mau Veterans for compensation." she said.
Mau Mau war governing council had demanded compensation from British government over atrocities meted against them during fight for independence.
The case will be heard on 20th of February.
