Gidi responds to Khaligraph Jones about playing Kenyan music

Gidi has responded to Khaligraph Jones concerning his comments about Kenyan presenters not playing Kenyan music.

The Radio Jambo host spoke to Kalondu Musyimi while they were at the Carnivore during a performance recently.

The host defended himself and told her,

Each and every radio station has a format, meaning that Radio Jambo being a national radio station, our target audience are the normal mwananchi. The kind of music we play for them is totally different than say, what Classic FM or Kiss FM plays.

He added:

You expect me to play for example Beyonce on Radio Jambo, they won't get it because their music consumption is totally different.

Gidi was very passionate in his defence of radio presenters saying that they could not be forced to play the music that their target audience was not going to listen to.

He also said that the music played depends on the market research that has been done. This research according to him indicates the type of music that the audience wants to listen to.

He said that unfortunately for Kenyan artistes, the audience of Radio Jambo overwhelmingly wants music by Tanzanian artistes,

As a radio station, we are also in business. You must do what the consumers want, however, I agree with Khaligraph Jones that we need to play more Kenyan music.

A solution he gave was that the media owners should meet and try to get more Kenyan music playing.
