The disputed piece of land in Lang'ata belongs to the primary school, Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has said.

"We need to find these people who wanted to take this public land belonging to the school," Ngilu said on Monday.

She was speaking during the launch of Land administration offices in Mombasa.

National Lands Commission chairman Muhammad Swazuri said there are "relevant documents" showing that the land is the school's.

The school's pupils and management protested alongside activists against the alleged grabbing of the playground on Monday morning.

They demolished the wall separating the school from Weston hotel and waved signs condemning the land grabbers.

Five pupils and two activists were arrested in the protest, the police terming it illegal.

Two journalists and an officer were also injured.
