Harambee Starlets Lose 2-1 To Cameroon In International Friendly

Harambee Starlets went down 2-1 to Cameroon in an international friendly played on Sunday, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, this, despite the David Ouma coached side putting up a spirited fight.

The Cameroonians took the lead in the 38th minute through Michelle Akaba’s  penalty after Elizabeth Ambogo was judged to have fouled the Cameroonian striker.

Starlets made it one all in the 51st minute through Christine Nafula, the midfielder volleying home a Caroline Anyango cross, before a Samantha Akinyi own goal in the 71 minute gifted the West African side their second goal of the game to guarantee them a narrow 2-1 win.

The match served as a build up ahead of the African Women’s Cup of Nations finals scheduled to take place from November 20th 2016 to December 3rd.

The Starlets who are in pool ‘B’ together with Mali, Ghana and cup holders Nigeria launch their quest for the crown on November 20, at the Stade Municipal de Limbe against Ghana, before facing Mali on November 23.

They wind up the group matches with a tantalising clash against Nigeria on November 26.

Hosts Cameroon are in group ‘A’ together with Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
