More and more research is showing that the key to lifelong good health is what experts call “lifestyle medicine”  making simple changes in diet, exercise, and stress management.

You can reduce your health risks and enjoy a life full of value by following some of these guidelines that will help you have choices you can make on your day to day life easily.

Eat your vegetables

A diet high in vegetables is associated with a reduced risk of developing cancers of the lung, colon, breast, cervix, oesophagus, stomach, bladder, pancreas, and ovaries.

Try having a maximum of five servings of vegetables a day whether it's raw, steamed, or stir-fried.

Think positive and focus on gratitude

Research shows a healthy positive attitude helps build a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Your body believes what you think, so focus on the positive.

Reduce salt and sugar intake

A high salt intake can result in high blood pressure, and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

It advisable to reduce the intake of salt and sugar to avoid such health risks. You could replace them with healthier options such as honey instead of sugar and buying products with lower sodium content.

Drink plenty of fluids

Water is the best source, of course, and we can use tap or mineral water, sparkling, Fruit juices, tea, soft drinks, milk and other drinks, can all be okay from time to time.

Adults need to drink at least 1.5 litres of fluid a day or more if it's very hot or they are physically active.

Maintain a healthy body weight

The right weight for each of us depends on factors like our gender, height, age, and genes. Being overweight increases the risks of a wide range of diseases, including diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer.

Try to stay active as much as possible whether you are young or old. Exercise is very important in general for a healthier lifestyle.

Get a goodnight sleep

Sleep is vital for your body and health. You get focused better with proper rest.

If you have trouble sleeping, try relaxation techniques such as meditation and yoga. Or eat a small bedtime snack of foods shown to help shift the body and mind into sleep mode. Darken your room more and turn your clock away from you.

Make it a Habit

Make sure to balance these activities and make them a habit. Exercising, eating right and drinking plenty of fluids. Your children will follow your example as well so make a healthy example.
