Julius Yego wins big in the 12th Sports personality Of The Year Awards

World Javelin champion Julius Yego won the sports personality of the year award yesterday, at the 12th awards gala. Yego also won the sports man of the year beating 1500 meters champion Asbel Kiprop  and Geoffrey Kamworor to second and third respectively.

In the women's category 3000m steeplechase world champion Hyvin Kiyeng beat volley baller Mercy Moim to second while marathoner Florence Kiplagat was third.

KPL champions Gor Mahia clinched the team of the year, followed by National Hockey team and the  Kenya15s  Rugby side in second and third place respectively. Malkia Strikers edged out their juniors, Kenya under 23 volleyball team that won gold at the All Africa Games as African  hockey champions Telkom were third. Kumari Taki won the most promising male athlete, while Agnes Tirop won the girls category.

Other categories saw former Malkia strikers coach David Lung’aho win coach of the year,  as Lawrence Buyachi won the come back of the year award ahead of former KCB striker Mungai Kiongera.  Ezekiel Kemboi  won the ever green category.The Kenya Volleyball Federation was named federation of the year.  Onesmus Mutinda won Sportsman with a disability, while Susan Gatwiri won the sportswoman with a disability award.
