"What Jurgen Klopp told the team at half time" - Origi reveals

A rousing half-time team talk from Jurgen Klopp provided the inspiration as Liverpool pulled off perhaps the greatest comeback in their European history.

Having looked dead and buried at the interval, when they trailed Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at half-time and 3-1 on aggregate, Liverpool tore into the Germans in the second 45 minutes after Klopp demanded his players 'give their grandchildren something to remember'.

That is exactly what they did as goals from Divock Origi, Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren – in added time – retrieved what looked to be an impossible situation and immediately drew comparisons with fabled nights of the past.

This, without question, was a game to rival those in the European Cup against St Etienne (1977), Olympiakos (2004) and AC Milan (2005) and there can be no doubt that those who were inside Anfield witnessed something extraordinary.

Origi said: ‘The coach told us "create a moment to tell our grandchildren, make it a special night for the fans".

We said at half-time we have nothing to lose, we need to just to believe. It was a great effort from everyone, we deserved to win.’

Klopp’s side looked set to be pummelled after Dortmund’s supercharged start saw them score twice in the opening nine minutes through Henrikh Mykhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and when Marco Reus made it 3-1 in the 58th minute, the Germans seemed destined for the semi-finals.

But Klopp, who kept winding the crowd up and demanding his players push themselves to their limits, found a way to galvanise a stunning response. Liverpool will now be favourites to win the Europa League but the manager will not consider that possibility.

Klopp said: 'It's difficult to explain. It was a wonderful night at Anfield. To be honest the game was strange from the beginning.

'The whole game showed the quality of Dortmund. We tried to play but they counter attacked us. Staying in the tournament is absolutely great.

My right arm hurts. It was intense for everybody but we're really happy and we won't forget it.

Klopp added: 'You need passion and to start to believe. It was nice to see from each goal how we came back into the game.

'I think it's deserved. We had a lot of chances and we scored the goals. A little bit of luck of course when you scored in the 92nd minute.’
