Reports say that KFS has bought three cows to sacrifice as Mtongwe operations are expected to begin.

A source who didn't want to be identified told Mpasho that the cows were to be slaughtered today and their blood poured into the ocean and meat distributed to the locals.

In 1994 over 272 people died during the Mtongwe ferry disaster.

In today's event Mv Likoni is one of the latest vessels to be deployed to operate in Mtongwe. The function was to be officiated by transport CS James Macharia among other delegates.

The source also added that the cows will be returned to Galana ranch until further notice when the launch will be announced.

"This is our tradition and has been since the Mtongwe tragedy in 1994. It shocked everyone and a sacrifice must be done. The cows are at ferry headquarters but the exercise has been postponed,"he said.
