KRA officers arrested with over KSh 200M Mandrax at Eldoret airport

The Kenyan police were able to get severe accolades this week after they arrested drug smugglers.

Police acting on a tip-off arrested three senior Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers at Eldoret airport with Mandrax estimated to be worth KSh 200 million unravelling an elaborate drug trafficking syndicate. The three were arrested alongside an officer from the drugs and poisons board following days of investigations.

In a strange turn of events, KRA North Rift Regional Coordinator Florence Otori refuted the claims that it was police who discovered the drugs. She maintained it was her officers who had raised the alarm. Reports indicate the operation took place after complaints were lodged over laxity by officials at the airport to facilitate criminal activities that expose the country to extreme danger.

North Rift Regional Coordinator Mongo Chimwanga issued a warning to other government officers who may be involved in drug trafficking. Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno also warned airport employees against misusing the facility. He added that they are following leads to know whether the drugs had been supplied to other parts of Eldoret and its environs.
