Malkia Strikers superstar Triza Atuka is one of the few guardian angels who are on a mission to change dozens of lives during this Christmas period.

This is after the multi-award winning Volleyballer announced her noble plan of reaching out to her community and lend a helping hand, to a number of children who have been denied the pleasure  and opportunity to enjoy their childhood.

According to Atuka, the thought of reaching out came after a recent visit to her Lukunji community in Kakamega County where she noticed that the jigger menace was slowly endangering the lives of innocent less fortunate kids.

Having been touched by the situation, the Kenya Pipeline's middle blocker took to her Facebook page where she narrated her experience and called upon his friends and fans to come together and help make it a better Christmas for the affected families.

In her post, the Kenya Pipeline captain said that she has already identified about 40 kids whom together with other well wishers she's willing to help.

She says that in addition to helping the affected parties receive proper treatment, her initiative includes donating clothes, shoe's (rubbers) and monetary support that will be channeled towards everything required for their treatment.

During a previous visit to one of the affected homes an 11 year old boy told me,"I can't even sleep or walk well because this 'things' make me feel so much pain,at night the jiggers itch and when I walk on the road barefoot the pain is unbearable".

Sadly this scenario is replicated across all who are affected in the community, young and old alike. They are imprisoned in theirs homes, confined within their small earthed houses yet the menace can be prevented, treated and eradicated altogether.

These families poor and stigmatised need our help now....! She posted on her Facebook page.

"This is just an initiative I came up with this Christmas period so as to give up to the society after I visited my ancestral home and I could see the young kids were jiggers-infested. I spoke to some of the kids to inquire about everything and they shared their stories and I was touched." Said the soft spoken Atuka speaking exclusively to Radio Jambo.

So I said instead of just sympathizing I could at least come up with an idea which would help treat them and donate a few pairs of shoes for this Christmas as a gift for them. So I decided that I cannot do it alone definitely so I shared the idea with my friends and also reached out to people who are willing to help, to join the initiative. She added.

Atuka who helped the national team book a spot at the 2018 Women's World Championship in Japan and Kenya Pipeline win the league title for the fourth time, also revealed that a number of her teammates loved the idea and have also joined hands as they look to travel to Kakamega this Saturday, 23rd of December, 2017.
