Police in Kinangop Nyandarua County are holding a middle-aged suspect after he stabbed his cousin to death following an argument over a piece of meat in Muteini village near Engineer town.

Trouble started after the victim bought a piece of meat from one of the butcheries and proceeded to his home ready to have a feast after struggling in the field.

According to a neighbor Peter Karimi, the deceased decided to take a shower only to come back and find his cousin busy cooking part of the meat.

Karimi said that a fight ensued and in the process the meat owner was stabbed on the lower ribs using a sharp knife.

“The victim was stabbed once by his cousin who later fled and entered one of the bars where he started drinking,” he said.

Karimi added that the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the body taken to the area mortuary.

“The attacker who was still drinking was arrested by motorcycle operators and handed over to police as investigations into the incident kicked off,” he said.

A senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed the incident adding that the suspect was in custody and would be arraigned in court facing murder charges.

“We have started investigations into the incident before arraigning the suspect in the High Court in Naivasha to face murder charges,” said the officer.

Meanwhile, the management of the Naivasha sub-county hospital has called on relatives whose kin were missing to check with their mortuary.

This came as the facility said that it would in a week dispose-off 17 unclaimed bodies at the Longonot cemetery after obtaining a court order.

According to the superintendent in charge of the hospital Dr Joseph Mburu, the number of unclaimed bodies in the facility was over 30.

“In the last couple of weeks police have brought at least five bodies which were found dumped along the highway and we are asking relatives to check with us before we dispose them,” he said.
