Kemboi is suspected to have died in a road accident at Sukunanga in November but his body was taken to the morgue without identification.
A lengthy search by family members ended at the morgue where his body has been lying.
He was an AP officer based at Embakasi in Nairobi.
CEO of the hospital Dr Wilson Aruasa confirmed that the body had been identified as that of Kemboi.
"It was brought in by traffic police in November 2018 after a road accident at Sugunanga area on the Eldoret-Nakuru road", said Dr Aruasa.
Family members were at the morgue for an autopsy on the body.
The player who turned for national championships side was discovered by family members at the morgue after two months of searching.
Family spokesman Andrew Kimetto, who traveled from Bomet County to view the body said they received a call in November from Embakasi seeking to know if Kemboi was at home.
"We embarked on a search for him and luckily we have managed to get his body in Eldoret,” said Kimetto.
The family however questions records on Kemboi's death.
At Embakasi, he had been given leave on 28th November but the records at the morgue shows that he was brought in as an unknown person on 25th November.
“How come he died on 25th yet he was given leave on November 28th?, posed Kimeto.
Kimeto said they had searched for him countrywide including at mortuaries in Nakuru, Eldoret and Nairobi.
“As a family, we now have some kind of terrible closure after finding the body. We called and came to confirm that indeed it's him", said Kemboi.
Police also used his NHIF card to identify the body.
Records at the hospital indicate that he was involved in a road accident while traveling to Eldoret in a Moline Sacco matatu.
“The family has confirmed that the body is that of Kemboi" said Dr Aruasa.
