Moi Girls Student Expected In Court To Face Arson, Murder Charges

A student suspected to have started the fire at Moi Girls High School in Nairobi is expected in court this morning to face various charges including nine murder accusations.

She will also face charges of arson, which led to the killing of her nine colleagues. Police investigations have linked her to the incident and they say they are ready to prosecute her despite protests by the parents she had been framed up.

Experts’ report shows the fire was started intentionally. The girl had been detained for seven days to allow police conclude investigations.

Children’s Court Magistrate Teresia Nyangena said that the student is a minor and the police have to expeditiously investigate the fire incident.

The inferno engulfed Kabarnet dormitory at the school leading to nine deaths,  injuries and massive destruction of property. All the nine have been positively identified following the completion of DNA examinations.

Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor described the process as successful as the affected families flocked to Chiromo Mortuary to view the bodies.
