A mother and her four-month-old baby boy were crushed to death by a tractor in Ainamoi sub-county.

Evelyne Chepkoech, 43, was wrapping a sheet around her child when it got caught on the wheel of the speeding vehicle.

Kericho OCPD Justus Kitetu said part of the woman's dress also got in the wheel resulting in more force for a fall.

She fell with the baby still strapped to her chest.

They landed under the tractor which then ran over them in the incident at Kapsoiyo village on Monday.

Kericho OCPD Justus Kitetu said Chepkoech was heading to Kapsoit at about 10am while the tractor was headed in the opposite direction.

The boda boda rider did not get hurt.

The tractor driver fled after the accident but was later arrested and will be charged with driving carelessly.

“The driver of the Ford tractor, whose registration number is KAE 617P, fled after the accident but police and members of the public found him," Kitetu said adding investigations were underway.

The bodies were taken to Kericho County Referral Hospital mortuary.
