The incident attracted the attention of the locals who flocked the home to have a glimpse of the suspect who had turned into herbivore.
David Omayo, the owner of the stolen cow who works in a nearby school, said he was informed by his wife that one of his cows was missing and embarked on a searching mission.
Their efforts to search for it were futile and he was advised by a friend to consult a witch doctor from Tanzania.
“I called the witch doctor and he asked for Sh10,000 to fuel his car. I sent the amount and he arrived the next day,” said Omayo.
The witch doctor directed Omayo to gather his friends and neighbours as it had been revealed to him that the cow was stolen by someone close to him.
The residents were requested to wash their hands in a basin of water placed at the point the cow had been locked in and the suspect would be revealed shortly.
“After washing our hands the witch doctor and the rest of us left the home.
Two hours later one of my friends called me claiming he was feeling sickly. We later found him eating grass at the same homestead,” said Michael Kathenge, a neighbor.
On seeing that the suspect was one of the neighbors and a close friend, Mr Kathenge called on the witch doctor to reverse the spell and save the man’s life.
The witch doctor then demanded that Sh50,000 be sent to him via Mpesa but they could not raise the amount.
Police officers who were called in rushed him to Molo Level Four Hospital for medical attention but the medics declined to admit him saying it was not a medical condition.
According to witnesses the man who is also a member of the Nyumba Kumi initiative has been attending security meetings which made it hard for them to track him down.
The suspects returned to normalcy after half the amount demanded was sent to the witch doctor.
