The deceased identified as 30-year-old Simon Kamau from Murungaru village decided to commit suicide after the girl left him for another man claiming that he was too poor.
The deceased, who was is a casual laborer in the area, could not cope with the rejection and decided to take his life during the bizarre incident.
Emotions ran high as police and members of the public moved in to retrieve the body before taking it to Naivasha hospital mortuary.
A witness Adam Mwaura said that the two had dated for over a year before the woman decided to move on after getting a richer man.
Mwaura added that the deceased had high hopes of marrying the woman noting that the rejection caught him by surprise.
“He could not bear the pain of losing the girl and decided to take his life by jumping into the dam near Murungaru center,” he said.
The OCPD Engineer town Samson Munyao confirmed the incident adding that the body had since been recovered and an inquiry file opened.
“The girlfriend claims that they fell out over some personal reasons and the deceased decided to take his life thereafter,” he said.
