Operations at the Naivasha open air market were temporarily disrupted after a new born baby was crushed to death by a sack of cabbages.

The minor who was sleeping in one of the stores was confirmed dead on arrival at Naivasha sub-county hospital where she had been rushed for treatment.

Emotions ran high in the market as the mother and her friends tried to come to terms with the death that left many in shock.

One of the traders Esther Wambui said that the mother had left the minor sleeping in the store when the incident occurred.

“We are not sure what happened but one of the sacks that was full of cabbages crushed on the minor who was rushed to the hospital but she unfortunately died,” she said.

A senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed the incident adding that an inquest file had since been opened up as part of their investigations.

Meanwhile, police in Mai Mahiu Naivasha have recovered the head of a man who was murdered last week and his body dumped along the Narok-Mai Mahiu road.

The head was found by a group of boys stashed in a polythene paper and dumped in bushes a few kilometers from the trading center.

Last week, area residents woke up to a rude shock to find a headless body dumped in the area by unknown people raising fear and anxiety among them.

According to area youth leader Joseph Njoroge, the head had since been identified as belonging to one of the youths involved in sand harvesting.

Njoroge said that no one knew the motive of the murder adding that police had since moved in and collected the head.

“The man has for years worked in sand harvesting business and we are waiting for police to unveil this bizarre murder,” he said.

Area OCS Ezra Sambu confirmed the incident adding that the head had been taken to area mortuary and an inquest file opened up.

“We have recovered the head dumped in some bushes and the relatives have since identified it as our officers investigate this incident,” he said.
