No room for Bale as Ronaldo and Eriksen feature in UEFA goal of the season nominations

The twelve nominees for the UEFA goal of the season have been revealed, with Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning overhead kick for Real Madrid against Juventus being included.

Ronaldo, who subsequently joined Juventus, scored the remarkable goal in the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

Christian Eriksen's goal for Denmark against the Republic of Ireland in World Cup qualifying also made the cut.

Eriksen produced a well-timed finish following an excellent counter-attacking move.

Only goals that were scored in UEFA club or international fixtures were eligible for consideration for the award.

However, rather surprisingly, Gareth Bale's excellent acrobatic effort for Real Madrid against Liverpool in the Champions League final isn't among those up for the prize.

Dimitri Payet's brilliant dribble and finish for Marseille against RB Leipzig in the Europa League has been nominated.
