By Lilian Mutavi

A police officer on suspension was arrested on Sunday for arresting and demanding bribes from Embakasi residents.

Titus Matinge was nabbed in Mukuru kwa Njenga after residents reported him to the authorities.

A police report stated that the officer was demanding money to secure release of those who fell to his trick.

"Police officers from Embakasi moved in and established that the officer was not from our division," the report reads.

Upon being searched,  Matinge was found in possession of a certificate of appointment.

The suspect said he was from Kenya Airport Police Unit (Kapu) but the JKIA police boss denied knowing him.

After that, Matinge changed the narrative and said he was from Railways police, a claim that was dismissed by Nairobi bosses.

The officer, the report states, later claimed he was stationed at Railways, Mombasa.

The police are holding him for further investigations.
