Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga distanced himself from remarks by Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina that Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri should be left out of the new cabinet jobs.

The Governor said that the Senator had not consulted any of the elected leaders in the county, adding that the alleged sentiments are his personal views terming it as unfortunate.

Mutahi said that the President should be given time to form his government without giving him unnecessary political pressure.

“We cannot purport to be advising the President on who to appoint and who to leave out. He has the discretion of doing the appointments in a way that he feels better for the nation," he said.

Kahiga also said that there are better ways to address the President other than through the media which include booking an appointment with him for such discussions.

He added that Nyeri people will be happy if the Senator will be busy soliciting for funds from the national government and other donors instead of engaging in mere politics.

“What Nyeri people want to hear is completing of projects like Karatina and Chaka markets, tarmacking of Kanyagia – Endarasha road among other projects,” he added.

Senator Maina was quoted last weekend by a local daily saying there was no need of Uhuru to reappoint Kiunjuri but he was later faulted by both Nyeri and Laikipia leaders.

Maina later vehemently denied the remarks saying he was misquoted.
