One person dead, two escaped narrowly after Nissan matatu they were riding in was swept away at the swelling river Ng'inyang in Tiaty, Baringo County on Friday.

The river also feeds water to the already over flowing Lake Baringo.

The vehicle according to resident Yudah Losutan was ferrying passengers heading Chemolingot from Marigat town.

"The vehicle was full then upon arriving at the river it was already overflowing due to heavy rains then forcing the people to alight" said Losutan.

He said the driver, conductor and unidentified passenger attempted to ride over the river but the vehicle was then overwhelmed by the heavy force of the water flowing downstream from the nearby Paka hills.

"By today (Friday) around 10am, we were still following up along the river to find the missing persons with the vehicle, although report reaching us now is that one person has been found dead while the other two were still missing," said Losutan.
