The teenager Henry Kamau (15yrs) had incidentally sat for his KCPE exams last week and died hours after arriving at Kijabe Mission hospital where he had been rushed for treatment.
Emotions ran high in his home as his relatives, classmates and friends tried to come to terms with the death of the teenager termed as very bright.
In many rural areas across the country, cases of youths tormenting and beating up freshly circumcised boys have been reported as one way of the initiation ceremony.
According to the teenager's mother Teresia Nyambura, one of the youths had agreed to take care of the minor during his healing process.
She however said that a group of the youths visited the teenager who was recovering in a nearby room and ended up torturing him.
“In the morning we realized that he was in bad condition as he had burns around his body, his eyes were swollen and was vomiting and decided to rush him to hospital,” she said.
Tears flowing down her cheeks, the mother of four said that her second born son was declared dead on arrival at the mission hospital.
A neighbor Sam Ngugi said that those responsible were well known adding that a report had been made to the Mai Mahiu police station.
“The boy was a student in Ngeya Primary school and was waiting for his KCPE results when this painful incident occurred,” he said.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident adding that they were seeking the youths involved to record a statement as part of their investigations.
“The body has been taken to Mai Mahiu mortuary and we are seeking the group of boys so that they can shed more light on this issue,” said the officer.
Meanwhile an eight year old boy was hit and killed by a speeding car along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway near Kijabe trading center.
The minor who was in the company of his colleagues was crossing the busy highway when the incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
“The accident happened so fast with the personal car hitting and killing the minor on the spot while the occupants escaped unscathed,” said a police source.
