Police Officer Crushed To Death By A Speeding Vehicle Near Gilgil Weighbridge

A police officer was crushed to death by a speeding car along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway near Gilgil weighbridge as cases of road accidents in the country continue to rise.

The police rider was heading to Gilgil from Naivasha when a car hit him from behind before fleeing from the scene of the accident.

One of the legs of the officer, who is attached to the anti-stock-theft unit, was severed near the knee on impact before he succumbed to the injuries.

The accident caused a major traffic snarl-up before traffic police from the nearby Gilgil police station moved in and collected the body and the wreck of the motorcycle.

A witness James Wanjohi said that it was not clear which car hit the police officer adding that the accident occurred very fast.

“There were some vehicles ahead of us and we heard a loud bang and after a few seconds we came upon the police officer who was bleeding profusely before he died,” he said.

The accident occurred a few meters from the scene of the weekend incident where four people died after their vehicle was involved in a head on collision with a lorry.

Two other people including Ziwani MCA in Nairobi Millicent Wambui were seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
