After a rocky ten-year marriage Ryan Giggs's marriage to estranged wife Stacey Cooke was ended today as the latest round of their protracted split was signed off by a senior judge, according to an article published in the Dailymail.

The pair were granted a decree nisi at London's Central Family Court after a judge heard the marriage 'has broken down irretrievably'.

The former Manchester United star, 43, has been locked in a legal battle with Stacey, 39, since last year, with a judge set to rule on how their assets are shared if their lawyers cannot reach an agreement later this year.

The court papers made public today said 'the judge held that the respondent [Giggs] has behaved in such a way that the petitioner [Stacey Cooke] cannot reasonably be expected to live with the respondent'.

To the question posed on court documents of whether the behaviour was continuing, she answered: 'Yes.'

In his response, Giggs, when asked if he intended to defend the case, replied: 'No. I reserve the right to refute any allegations that are untrue if raised against me in the future. However I do accept that the marriage has irretrievably broken down.'

He added that he would agree to pay Mrs Giggs's reasonable costs.

Neither Giggs nor Cooke attended today's 43-second court hearing, after which her lawyer made a statement on her behalf.
