It is not enough for Christians to just pray for peace, they need to ensure they also cast their votes in the elections, Deputy president William Ruto's wife Rachael has said.

Rachael has said most Christians have already been praying for peace to prevail and that they now need to take action and cast their votes.

Speaking at Ihura stadium in Murang'a town on Friday, Rachael noted that Kenyans are a largely peaceful community that is capable of conducting peaceful elections.

"As Christians, we have to make sure we exercise our right to vote even as we pray for peace," she said.

She appealed to residents of all regions that have been classified as elections' hot spot to uphold peace to ensure no lives are lost.

Rachael who led the prayers noted that there is a need for Kenyans to do away with the notion that there is going to be violence and encourage each other to uphold peace.

She also urged Kenyans to stop regarding each other on ethnic or clans to boost cohesion.

" Kenya is made up of peaceful people and none of us wants to see violence," she said.

"No one chose which tribe to be born in so we should stop clinging to our ethnic backgrounds," she added.

She said Kenyans should go into the elections as a peaceful nation knowing that leaders are chosen by God.

Rachael was accompanied by local leaders led by governor Mwangi wa Iria, women representative Sabina Chege, Kandara Mp Alice Wahome and Kiharu MP Irungu Kang'ata.

Wa Iria on his part said Murang'a people are fully behind the government and urged Kenyans to vote for development oriented leaders.

"As Murang'a leaders, we have committed to ensure elections are peaceful here and everybody casts their vote," Wa Iria said.
